The first game of the weekend for the Morley Glass Leeds Knights starts at home on Friday night as we welcome the Sheffield Steeldogs back to The Castle – this time in league action.
It was a defeat on home ice for the Knights last time the Steeldogs were in town as the two teams battled in the first-leg of the National Cup Final. This time, it’s a battle for Yorkshire pride on the line.
The Steeldogs went 2-0 up at The Castle, but Jonas Bennett halved the deficit with his first goal on home ice – an important goal to get the Knights on the scoresheet.
In the dying minutes of the game, the Sheffield Steeldogs’ top points scorer Bair Gendunov converted a penalty shot to give his side a two-goal advantage heading into the second-leg – but there’s still 60-minutes of hockey to go.
This weekend, the two sides face-off against each other at 6:30pm at The Castle – the last meeting between the two sides before the all-important second-leg.
The Knights were victorious in front of another immense crowd on home ice last weekend against the Basingstoke Bison, ending a six-game losing streak in all competitions, and they’ll be looking to build on that this weekend, stringing some consistent performances together before the Final.
The second game of the weekend for the Knights is a road trip down south to take on the NIHL National League 25/26 champions, the Swindon Wildcats.
Their overtime victory over the Steeldogs last weekend crowned them champions of the league for this season, but the Knights are still battling for their playoff position to be confirmed.
This will be the final game before the Final for the Knights – a real opportunity to get some momentum going and build some confidence ahead of Wednesday in Sheffield.
