The Morley Glass Leeds Knights are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian forward Cullen McLean ahead of the 2026/27 NIHL National season.

The 25-year-old arrives in West Yorkshire following a productive spell in France's FFHG Division 1 with HC Neuilly-sur-Marne, where he recorded an impressive 32 points (21 goals, 11 assists) in just 22 appearances, averaging 1.45 points per game.

Standing at 6'2”, the left-shooting forward brings a combination of size, skill and versatility. Combining the hunger of a player entering his prime, with valuable experience gained across both North America and Europe, McLean arrives in Leeds ready to make an immediate impact.

McLean developed through the highly regarded Ontario hockey system before progressing to the Ontario Hockey League with the Soo Greyhounds, where he tested himself against some of the game’s brightest young talents. He credits his time in the OHL as a key stage in his development, challenging him to raise every aspect of his game as he competed against several future NHL players that helped shape the complete two-way game he possesses today.

McLean spent four seasons with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, where he continued to develop both on and off the ice. Alongside his offensive production, he embraced a leadership role within the programme, mentoring younger teammates while establishing himself as a dependable presence in all situations.

Now making the move to The Castle, McLean arrives with a reputation as a hardworking forward who is difficult to play against. His blend of physicality, offensive ability and versatility adds another exciting dimension to the Knights' forward group ahead of the new campaign.

McLean will also encounter some familiar faces during his first season in the NIHL National. France's FFHG Division 1 continues to prove a strong recruitment market for British clubs, with Swindon Wildcats, Basingstoke Bison, Milton Keynes Lightning and Telford Tigers all recruiting players from the league ahead of the upcoming season.

Established NIHL National players including John Dunbar (Bristol), Dillon Lawrence (Peterborough), Dominik Gabaj (Peterborough) and Dylan Stewart (Bristol) have also previously plied their trade in France's second tier, highlighting the quality of competition McLean has been competing in.

Speaking on his arrival in Leeds, McLean said: “I’m very excited to be joining Leeds for this upcoming season and joining the winning culture that has been built here. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the club from the management, players, team staff and the fans.”

Head Coach Ryan Aldridge said: “It’s great to get Cullen to Leeds. He is our kind of player and person. He had a great first year pro last season and is keen to start this year in the same way. He is a big strong forward who scores goals. He can help share that load and makes the line up deeper.  Cullen comes highly recommended by Noah [McMullin] and I have to thank him for his part in getting Cullen here.”

Everyone at the Leeds Knights would like to welcome Cullen to the club and we can’t wait to see him take to the ice at The Castle this season.

Cullen will be proudly sponsored by Ontario Canada for the 2026/27 season.
